By your “self,” I’m not referring to your physical body – I’m referring to your personal consciousness — what reincarnationists believe keeps coming back
If reincarnationists are right, it’s your “soul” I’m referring to….
While we all take our selves for granted, our selves should be the very last things that we do…
Think about it — take your time
Where in the Hell did you come from?
Did you have to exist — ever???
Scientifically speaking, probably not
But even if you did — if you could exist for only one finite time at most — how likely is it that right now would happen to coincide with that time?
This is significant evidence that you (we) actually exist more than once (or, that we always exist — in one form or another)
The only evidence that we can exist for only one finite time at most is that most of us don’t remember (or imagine) any previous lifetimes
But then, we humans (homo-sapiens) have been around for around 200,000 years and have produced around 100,000,000,000 examples
Suggesting, at least, an infinity of potential human selves — if each of us can exist for only one finite time at most
Think about that
So, where do our SELVES come from, anyway?
As far as I can tell, science does not try to explain how that happens – how our particular selves actually come to exist…
Cloning ( using the same DNA) reproduces the body, but not the self (accepting that lower animals have consciousness, and therefore selves; and that 2 bodies sharing the same self would hinder if not prevent survival)
What is the physical explanation for DIFFERENT selves?
What is the physical explanation for YOU?
Whatever — the consensus secular hypothesis about the mortality of our selves is that each of us can exist for only one finite time — at most
What science does say is that consciousness is the “emergent property” of a large neuronal network
And then — consciousness naturally involves a self
And, if a self can have only one lifetime (at most), the odds of you ever existing must be virtually zero – and, the odds of you existing right now is much smaller.
Another way of explaining this probability (according to Stephen Hawking) is that before time there was an “initial singularity” of infinite mass that somehow led to the Big Bang which possessed all the physical properties that ultimately led to you…
That must be a LOT of characteristics!
How likely was that — that the Big Bang was exactly what was needed in order to eventually produce you right now?
The number of specific Big Bang characteristics needed to produce you right now may not be infinite, but neither are they countable
And, what if time is infinite, and you can only occur for only one finite time — at most?
How ever a particular self comes about, the probability that it would exist for only one finite time, right now, must be less than one over a Googolplex
And, if you actually exist right now, you should expect that modern science is missing a dimension (or, something)
In other words, the consensus “secular” hypotheses of human mortality is very likely wrong
And, you are probably reincarnated over and over again
And you also probably exist in some form otherwise in-between physical lifetimes…
In other words, you are probably a basic part of reality!
Hmmm…
And, if you exist, you should probably believe in God
Our existences could be the basic reason why a belief in God is so ‘popular’
Probably, we humans sub-consciously recognize this special meaning in our own existence, but it is extremely difficult for us to consciously recognize and express
So, it is something we only feel — and often call “faith“
I assume that the “lower” animals don’t have a clue
Consciousness is what cares, so meaning requires consciousness –
And, what I’m calling “ultimate meaning” must require something like a “universalconsciousness” — or God
